 The Literacy Council of LeFlore County is:
  • A non-profit organization in 1985 to provide tutorial assistance in reading, writing and other literacy skills to adults
  • Dedicated to erasing illiteracy in LeFlore County and raising awareness of the devastating effects of illiteracy on our communities.
  • Equipped to handle any level of adult learner, from severe to moderate.
  • Constantly training individuals to be the most effective tutors possible.
  • Open to anyone who wants to learn, regardless of gender, religion and income level.
  • Always free and confidential.
 The Literacy Council of LeFlore County Provides:
  • Adult literacy training on a one to one basis.
  • Classes arranged to fit the learner's schedule.
  • English as a second language classes in Poteau and Heavener.
  • Tutor training workshops for certification of volunteer tutors.
  • Referrals to other programs, such as GED prep classes.
  • Family literacy programs
  • Family night Jump Start program
  • Presentations for civic, church or school groups
